Position: Specialized Shelter Youth Advocate (Part-Time)

Department: Welcome Home
Reports To: Welcome Home Program Manager
Schedule: Part-time, with flexible hours. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

About the Role

The Family Assistance Program is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Specialized Shelter Youth Advocate to join our Welcome Home team on a part-time basis. This outreach-focused position supports youth in crisis and transitional housing environments by providing mentorship, advocacy, and individualized guidance to help them build stable, independent futures.

As a Youth Advocate, you'll develop individualized service plans, facilitate life skills and empowerment workshops, and coordinate with community partners to ensure every young person has access to the resources they need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor and guide youth under licensing guidelines (Title 22).

  • Assess needs and create individualized action plans.

  • Facilitate workshops and group activities promoting leadership and self-esteem.

  • Advocate for youth in educational, legal, and community settings.

  • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support as needed.

  • Conduct room or home visits to assess living conditions and progress.

  • Connect youth to housing, healthcare, employment, and other community resources.

  • Maintain accurate and timely case documentation.

  • Participate in outreach activities and community engagement events.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

  • 1-3 years of experience working with at-risk or transitional-age youth.

  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention skills.

  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.

  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.

  • Ability to pass a background check and TB test.

  • Bilingual abilities preferred but not required.
